Meet Lexi…

I am not WHAT happened to me

I am what I CHOOSE to become

— Carl Jung

Lexi

…also Alex to many, is a fully registered Psychologist with over 25 years of experience in counselling across many areas, but with a primary focus in the field of Trauma, PTSD and Complex Trauma, and associated sexual function and dysfunction and relationships and couples therapy. Over the past 5 years in particular, her focus has grown to a point where she fondly refers to herself as a ‘neuropsych-nerd’ which she loves as she enjoys early assessment and diagnosis of ASD, ADHD and other cognitive issues and giftedness but with a fondness for working with the wise woman of a more mature age that may have missed their appropriate neurospicey diagnosis at an earlier age.

Beliefs

A strong believer in the somatic release of trauma and the non verbal influence of trauma in life and distress, she is also trained in Trauma informed yoga, sand play therapy (Jungian), and has newly incorporated the use of the Safe and Sound Protocol designed by Dr Stephen Porges which is based on the Polyvagal theory of trauma and showing phenomenal results in ADHD, Autism, Anxiety, Depression, Trauma, and a host of other issues which have caused the overactivity of the fight or flight response. Lexi uses the Safe and Sound Protocol in conjunction with Deb Dana’s Polyvagal ladder work.

Why?

Research is now showing this treatment protocol can improve efficacy of other treatment regimes exponentially across a range of disorders. Lexi has added in biofeedback in the form of the HeartMath protocols of Heart rate variability (HRV) and biofeedback and emotional self regulation to assist with the pursuit of equanimity, the name sake of her Company. Lexi now has this in her clinic in Terrigal because she likes to make therapy achievable and tolerable to attend and maintain so hope can be seen as soon as possible.

What is she really like?

Lexi’s clients have described her as ‘not your typical psychologist’ and that’s the way she likes it. “I am very client focused and eclectic in my approach to the well being and recovery of my clients, so modality is less important to me in therapy than client need and enhancement of the sense of client safety. It is the role of the therapist to ensure they are across every modality that could potentially address their area of focus, which is in my case trauma, relationships and sexuality, so that the client can feel safe enough to embrace the process of recovery and healing and not only minimise symptoms but enhance joy in their lives, which may never have been experienced before.”

“and ask any of my clients, if we can achieve all that and have a laugh at the same time, we are definitely ahead of the game..
